“You Have Not Smelled My Breath In Two Years!”

Another week, another episode, more show notes. Here are some links, hopefully fun and intersting, to some of the stuff we talked about in this episode (in order of what I randomly remember, not importance or in which they happened necessarily):

We talked, thanks to an email, about the question of space exploration. Weird that this was coincidentally a couple days before UFO’s were all over the news! Coincidence? Or do Amber and I know things to which not everybody is privy? Whatever the case, I obliquely referenced an article in The Guardian that I had not read, in which one of the points was we should elave aliens alone (though it doesn’t say anything about them using us for food, that’s just what I think is going to happen. Anyway, turns out the article is about a physicist named Michio Kaku, who is a professor at City College in New York (proud former student here- Go Beavers!). I have now offically read it, and it’s pretty intersting. I highly recommend you read it as well.

Words can mean more than one thing. This is a privy.

As usual (or at least for the second time), we got into discussing Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, and we talked a little about the iconic Cineram Dome. Will it stay? Will it go away? We’ll see, but here’s some stuff about it (like for example the first movie that ever played there was “It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”). That was a movie that was on network TV all the time when I was a kid, but always just late enough that I wasn’t allowed to stay up and watch it. I always really wanted to- the trailers made it look wacky and hilarious! I bet it doesn’t live up.

I mentioned the great Rob Lathan, a very funny old school UCB guy, getting “lost” at a Yankee game. There is some footage of that incident on Youtube, but it’s not great, because at the time they did it you weren’t allowed to bring video cameras into Yankee Stadium (and it was long before everybody’s phone was Roger Deakins). Luckily, they recreated the bit for a group called ImprovEverywhere, a very funny prank collective that did lots of fun stuff and is worth investigating more deeply (they are probably best known for their No Pants Subway Rides, which are probably still happening every year). I talekd about how boring baseball is, which reminded me of this classic George Carlin bit (not in substance, content, execution, laughs, etc. just that it referneces baseball and football).

I still don’t totally get wrestling (although I’m coming around), but here’s a deep dive into the wrestling heel.

And finally, the director’s cut of that famous performance by Prince at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. So much exquisite.
